It's been over 40 years since his passing but I still think about Pete fairly often. One thing about being in isolation, you really get to know people well after living in close quarters with them for several months! I remember a few boat trips with him in search of Japanese fishing floats. I took this photo of him at Woodruff Bay after we found over a dozen glass balls one day.

One trip to Gilbert Bay, on the exposed west coast of Kunghit Island, almost ended in disaster. As we were landing the Kenova inflatable, a wave came out of nowhere and tossed us both into the sea totally soaking us! We managed to get to shore and dried out our clothes before heading back to the Cape.

Pete was one of the nicest guys I have ever met, always good natured and seeing the best in everyone. It was one of the saddest days of my life when I heard the news of his death.
